Volunteers support us in a range of areas, working alongside staff and service users to change the lives of people in our community.

Whatever way you can help us, we would like to hear from you!

At Dementia Concern, our volunteers push the boundaries of what we are able to achieve as an organisation and we would not be able to do what we do without them.

Some volunteers are on the ground, providing dementia services across the Borough, whilst others support our back office functions through volunteering in a fundraising, communications or administrative capacity.

Volunteers can expect to gain a range of skills and experience

There are also a range of training and development opportunities available. Additionally, volunteering can be a great way to build confidence and improve mental health and wellbeing.

Volunteers will gain satisfaction from giving back to the community, meeting new people and connecting with others. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to participate across the organisation, for example through attending staff socials as well as accessing some company benefits.

    Volunteer Stories

We have many different roles available for volunteers.

    Volunteer Finance Intern

"I saw an advert posted for Volunteer Finance Intern on a volunteering website. I decided to apply for the role because I wanted to make a difference in providing a service and helping people living with dementia. Also, it was relevant to my studies, as I was in my second year of accounting.

On the first day, the staff at Dementia Concern were friendly, welcoming and supportive. In my position as a Volunteer Finance Intern, I gained valuable knowledge, such as improving my communication, developing my IT skills and learning how to assist the finance department with different tasks.

The role has given me the opportunity to build my confidence and gain practical experience."

    Reception Volunteer and Dementia Befriender

"When I volunteered for reception at the office, I learned a lot about the condition of dementia, it's prevalence and the overwhelming need for such an organisation in the community. I felt the need to make some contribution to the running of the organisation.

When I also volunteered for the befriending service, it took me outside my comfort zone. I had to go into a person with dementia's home, make a connection with them, and build a relationship with them and their family.

It was rewarding for me to make that connection and also to realise that my client was looking forward to and enjoying my visits."
